Elon Musk faced new accusations of being antisemitic after endorsing a post on his social media platform X that claimed Jewish communities promote “hatred against whites.”
“You have said the actual truth,” Musk responded on the site formerly known as Twitter.
The billionaire — who has faced criticism from Jewish civil rights groups for allowing hate speech to fester on X — weighed in after a user posted the antisemitic trope that Jews want to bring undocumented minority populations into Western countries to reduce white majorities
“Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them,” X user @breakingbaht shared.
Musk’s response drew immediate outrage.
“Wow. This is antisemitism, straight up,” one user wrote.
Another fumed: “Dude. What are you talking about? What Jewish people are pushing hate towards whites?”
“This is beyond disappointing from you,” yet another chimed in.
A few two hours later, Musk seemingly tried to backpedal on his post, by saying he he does not believe hatred of white people extends “to all Jewish communities.”
But he quickly reignited his battle with the Anti-Defamation League, which touts on its website that it works “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people.”
“The ADL unjustly attacks the majority of the West, despite the majority of the West supporting the Jewish people and Israel. This is because they cannot, by their own tenets, criticize the minority groups who are their primary threat. It is not right and needs to stop,” he tweeted.
Musk accused the group later fired off a tweetstorm accusing the ADL of trying to shut down the site formerly known as Twitter by “falsely accusing it and me of being antisemitic.”
Musk, who bought the site for $44 billion last year, has blamed the ADL’s campaign to moderate hate speech on his site for a 60% drop in advertising sales. He has threatened to sue the group for “falsely accusing (X) and me of being antisemitic.”
He continued his tirade against the ADL on Wednesday night, tweeting: “And, at the risk of being repetitive, I am deeply offended by ADL’s messaging and any other groups who push de facto anti-white racism or anti-Asian racism or racism of any kind. I’m sick of it. Stop now.”
A similar spat between Musk and X users over whether the Tesla and SpaceX founder is antisemitic took place in the days following Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, when the 52-year-old billionaire was pushed to delete his own tweets after promoting accounts that have spread hate speech and misinformation when reporting on Hamas.
“For following the war in real-time, @WarMonitors & @sentdefender are good,” Musk shared on Oct. 8 with his more than 163 million followers. “It is also worth following direct sources on the ground. Please add interesting options in replies below.”
Musk’s post was viewed 11 million times within three hours before he finally deleted after being bashed for endorsing accounts that have a history of being “antisemitic” and “biased.”
“As always, please try to stay as close to the truth as possible, even for stuff you don’t like. This platform aspires to maximize signal/noise of the human collective,” Musk wrote later that same day.
