The last full moon for November has just graced the night skies, and you might be wondering when to expect the next full lunar event for December – which marks the last event for the rest of the year until 2024.

Full MOON for December, 2023
The last moon for November took place on the 27 November.
After this, the lunar body goes into the waning phase – until it works its way back up through the month-long cycle to grace the sky again.
The next full moon we can look forward to seeing will happen on 28 December, according to the website Moon Giant.
December’s moon will be the last lunar event for the year, and South Africans will only get to view the moon in all its glory again for next year.

The Cold Moon
According to the website Time and Date, December’s moon is referred to as the Cold or Ice Moon.
Traditionally, it’s the time of year when many parts of the world are covered in snow and ice – and thanks to this, the month’s moon gets this name.

It is also sometimes referred to as the Milk Moon, according to the Astronomical Heritage Society of South Africa.
Full moon for January, 2024
According to the website Moon Giant, the next lunar event we can look forward to will only happen in January, 2024.
The first important lunar date for the year is set for 6 January.
