This year for CLAT 2024, the Consortium has modified the CLAT exam pattern, bringing the total number of questions down from 150 to 120.There are five subject areas covered by these questions: Legal reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques, and English Language and Current Affairs. Each question is worth one mark, and every incorrect response costs you 0.25 marks.
The CLAT exam has the same overall time limit of two hours or 120 minutes, and the level of difficulty corresponds with the curriculum of class 12 for UG programmes. Here are section-wise tips and revision strategies for the last three days before the exam.
Legal reasoning
The CLAT 2024 Legal Reasoning will consist of approximately 450 word sections that are based on actual events or situations. These passages may or may not address legal, public policy, or moral philosophy-related topics.

  • Solve multiple mock papers, previous year questions: Prioritise solving a variety of practice papers to familiarise yourself with the exam format and enhance your problem-solving skills.
  • Cover all of the key topics: At the revision stage, ensure that you have developed a solid understanding of key legal topics, including tort law, contract law, the Indian Penal Code, and legal maxims. While memorisation is not mandatory, grasp the fundamental workings of the law. Remember, the exam assesses your ability to apply legal knowledge, not just your theoretical understanding.
  • Practise and revise your time management strategies: Work on your approach for best utilisaiton of time. While revising aim for swift reasoning responses within 45-55 seconds per question and ensure legal knowledge questions are answered in approximately 10 seconds. While meticulous in time allocation, be mindful not to compromise accuracy for speed, as precision remains crucial in completing all questions efficiently.

Logical reasoning
This section consists of deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning argument and problem solving. Questions are often in the passage format, followed by objective type ones. However, there are no fixed question patterns.

  • Integrated preparation: Revise to work on improvement of your language skills, reasoning, and legal reasoning collectively. Expect questions that are inclusive of these three domains, combined together to mould into one question.
  • Practise varied question formats: Expect diverse question formats, such as logic games or syllogisms, even if the structure differs from previous years. Focus on revising question sets from past years, and practise a variety of model questions available online.
  • Sequential approach to papers: Revise your exam strategy with the CLAT 2024 sample papers that have been released on the official website. Then progress onto papers from additional sources for a comprehensive preparation.

Quantitative Techniques
This section generally includes a series of questions, short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, visual, or diagrammatic representations of quantitative data.

  • Revise your core 10th and 12th grade mathematics problems to refresh your fundamentals. This is an ideal way to revise for this section.
  • It is critical that you practise for this segment. Attempt previous year papers, practise tests and sample papers on a regular basis.
  • Do not be concerned about how long it takes you to respond to a question; it is more important to respond correctly than to respond quickly.

English Language
The purpose of the CLAT 2024 English Language section is to evaluate the reader’s comprehension and analytical skills at the 12th grade level.

  • A lot of test takers struggle with grammar. Mostly, this is because of the differences in our written and spoken English. To prevent errors in this section, students should thoroughly review the Grammar Rules.
  • Practise multiple questions daily to improve your readability, accuracy and speed while answering. Time yourself, and see where you can improve, revise thoroughly to get better.
  • Questions about vocabulary will evaluate words’ general meanings as well as how they are used in the passage. Take note of how the question is phrased; simple questions can be purposefully made difficult in order to test someone’s level of attention.

Current affairs
Participants will be given approximately 450-word essays based on news and journalistic sources to demonstrate their understanding of significant issues. The emphasis is on comprehension rather than mere factual recall.

  • Practise at least 25-30 MCQs per day. This will help you remember the answers. To keep up with the latest news, read widely circulated newspapers. Revise your notes on important events. You can also find ready resources on preparation websites for easy revision of significant events.
  • While taking the exam, because the questions could be about anything, read the entire passage carefully. Certain important clues may be hidden in the passage while you are answering questions.
  • Check the day’s news analysis to ensure you haven’t missed anything. More importantly, you do not need to read the opinion editorials while studying for GK. Focus on the reported facts.
