The Jets’ Tim Boyle experiment didn’t even last two starts.
They turned to Trevor Siemian — their new backup after Zach Wilson got demoted to the third-string, emergency quarterback spot — at the start of the fourth quarter Sunday, with Gang Green trailing the Falcons, 13-8, and needing a win to keep their fading postseason hopes alive.
The MetLife Stadium fans cheered when Siemian jogged onto the field.
The Jets ran a play-action pass on the first snap, and Siemian connected with tight end Tyler Conklin for a first down.
Their drive ended in a punt, but for a brief moment, at least, there was a spark.
Boyle had completed 14 of 25 passes for 128 yards before his benching, including a costly interception on his final throw of the day — when the ball sailed over Garrett Wilson’s head near the sideline and right into the hands of Jessie Bates III.
Siemian started warming up on the sideline a few minutes later.
And when the Jets offense started their first drive of the fourth quarter, it was the 31-year-old — another journeyman backup once his starting chance with the Broncos in 2017 and 2018 fizzled out — taking the snaps.
He completed 2 of 5 passes for 20 yards on that first possession.

Siemian started a game for the Jets in 2019, attempting just six passes before sustaining an ankle injury that ended his season.
He was replacing Sam Darnold that week but Myles Garrett’s hit prompted the injury, knocking Siemian out and forcing Luke Falk to enter.
The Jets have faced constant shuffling at quarterback again this season.
Aaron Rodgers, who still could return if the Jets remain in postseason contention, tore his Achilles after just four snaps.
Wilson, getting another chance to run the offense, was benched.
Then, Boyle’s underwhelming performance prompted another change.
Once Wilson started to struggle in September, Siemian was signed to the practice squad in case.
