Mandurah and Bunbury are among the most generous towns in Australia when it comes to donating to GoFundMe crowdfunding campaigns, it has been revealed.
GoFundMe, which has fast become to the world’s leading fundraising platform, has compiled a list of Australia’s most generous cities – based on donations per capita – for 2023.
While Bundaberg in Queensland took out the top spot, Mandurah and Bunbury both made it into the top five by coming in fourth and fifth respectively.
Mandurah’s fourth placing is up one spot from last year, whereas Bunbury’s position is up two spots from 2022.
A staggering 1.4 million donations were made on GoFundMe pages in 2023 – a record number for the platform.
It comes as GoFundMe revealed recently that one in five Australians had donated to the platform.
A total of 5.2 million Aussies have made more than 9.2 million individual donations to fundraisers on GoFundMe, collectively raising more than $820 million for both national and international causes.
GoFundMe regional director for Australia Nicola Britton said it was inspiring to see a record number of donations this year.
“It is equal parts humbling and inspiring to see a record number of donations on the platform this year, especially against the backdrop of economic uncertainty for so many Australians,” Ms Britton said.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, compassion and generosity is certainly not showing signs of slowing down.”
