WATCH: Drone photographer captures stunning vision of whale that died off Rockingham being eaten

There are plans to display the skeleton of a giant sperm whale that died off Rockingham on Monday, but scientists better act fast.

Stunning footage has captured a precocious shark feasting on the carcass off the coast.

The 18m-long whale delighted West Aussies at the weekend when it came close to swimmers but sadly went on to die in the shallows soon after.

The beach was closed after the 40-tonne whale’s remains were towed out to sea.

Footage captured via drone by @skiesabovephotography on Wednesday morning showed a 2.5m tiger shark enjoying a snack.

It was posted with the caption: “Circle of life”.

The video shows the shark turning itself upside down while chewing on the whale’s jaw.

The tiger also has a go at a fin and even disappears in the whale’s mouth at one point.

More than 300 people liked the video on Wednesday afternoon with some calling the footage “awesome” & “incredible”.

“Sharks 🦈 getting a big Chrissy feast early 😋,” one woman wrote.

DBCA incident controller Mark Cugley said the whale will be hoisted from the water using a crane.

It will then be buried and exhumed in the coming years for research.
