MD Bastien Daguzan also named president

A change at the top for Jacquemus. Bastien Daguzan, who was hired in 2022 as the Parisian label’s managing director, has now broadened his remit to also include the role of president. The latter position had been held until now by Simon Porte Jacquemus, the ready-to-wear label’s founder and sole owner, who maintains his role as creative director.

 
The titles may be different, but “the two men’s respective roles remain unchanged”, the label told FashionNetwork.com, confirming Daguzan’s appointment as president, and adding that this step underlines the dynamic relationship between Porte Jacquemus and Daguzan. However, the change does come as a surprise, and could hint at the fact that new projects may be in the offing for Porte Jacquemus. Rumours have in fact been regularly making the rounds in recent months, suggesting that the French designer could be taking charge of style at some unspecified luxury label.
 
When Daguzan took charge last year, joining from fashion label Paco Rabanne – where he had been working for five years – it was the first time that Jacquemus hired a managing director from outside the company. Under Daguzan’s aegis, Jacquemus significantly stepped up the pace of its growth, doubling revenue from €100 million in 2021 to over €200 million the following year, according to Porte Jacquemus.

The label has notably focused its efforts on the direct retail channel, adding to its e-shop a first physical store on the avenue Montaigne, at the heart of Paris’s luxury shopping district. Jacquemus has also opened several pop-up stores, both in the guise of automated vending machines in Paris during Fashion Weeks, and of temporary stores in ultra-chic resorts both in summer – in France and Italy – and this winter, in the French Alpine resort of Courchevel.

Luxury consumers are showing a renewed appetite for in-store experiences, and Jacquemus’s goal is clearly to open another physical store, quite probably outside France.
