Billie Eilish appeared on Saturday Night Live for the third time last night and performed her song “What Was I Made For?” from her Barbie the Album, accompanied by her brother Finneas on piano. The track was introduced by director Greta Gerwig and host Kate McKinnon, who also appeared in a few musical sketches with Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig. Eilish also sang the Judy Garland holiday standard “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” View clips from the episode below.
In addition to her musical performances, Eilish also participated in the folky musical sketch “Tampon Farm” and “Whiskers R We,” a skit where she and McKinnon ran a cat shelter in matching glasses and perms. Eilish’s guest appearance follows recent performances from Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, Tate McRae, and Boygenius. Eilish last visited SNL in 2021, when she both hosted and performed. She made her debut on the show in 2019 alongside host Woody Harrelson.
“What Was I Made For?” has received five Grammy nominations for the 2024 awards in February: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written For Visual Media, and Best Music Video. It is also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Song for a Motion Picture. During her SNL performance of “What Was I Made For?,” Eilish sang in front of a montage of past and present Saturday Night Live cast members.
