A Christmas Eve bushfire warning has been issued in Pinjarra and Manjimup as firefighters continue to tackle conditions across WA.
As Perth temperatures climb to an expected maximum of 36 degrees, the new advice warning for people in an area bound by Moores Road, Sutton Street, Country Road, Beacham Road, Cobb and Co Road and Paperpark Place in Pinjarra.
DFES warns the fire, which is burning behind the Pinjarra Caravan Park and moving in a south-easterly direction, has no current threat to lives or homes, but there is a lot of smoke in the area.
In an update, DFES widened the alert area due to forecast wind conditions to include properties on the west side of Phillips Road, and blocks on the north-eastern side of Pinjarra Road.
Caravan park caretaker Katri Orn said the fire started very quickly after 10am this morning and had already come dangerously close to the fully booked venue.
Ms Orn said neighbours had evacuated their horses, and water bombers were tackling the fire from the air.
Locals are advised by DFES to:
- Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
- Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
- Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
On Sunday afternoon, DFES gave new bushfire advice for a part of Lake Muir National Park, 60km south-east of Manjimup.
The warning comes amid a separate fire burning south-west of Manjimup near Northcliffe, since Tuesday afternoon, which has burned through more than 2000ha of land.
The blaze added more pressure on firefighters, who have been called out to seven emergencies across Perth and the South West in just four days.
A fire in Parkerville claimed three homes on Thursday, while one in Keysbrook, south of Perth, claimed another two on Friday.
While the Keysbrook fires were contained and controlled on Saturday, DFES advised weather conditions over the next few days would put pressure on containment lines, potentially increasing fire activity in the area.
The horrific week started on Tuesday with other blazes in Lancelin, Toodyay, Eaton and Gidgegannup keeping firefighters and aerial tankers stretched.
