Kaizer Chiefs FC will enjoy a two-week break while Bafana Bafana partake in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Despite the club having NO players in Hugo Broos’ final 23 man squad however, one Amakhosi won’t be able to enjoy any down-time!
This is because midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa has been placed on emergency standby mode by Hugo Broos.
Mthethwa is one of three players that will be waiting in the winds should any injuries occur in the Ivory Coast.
Orlando Pirates’ Tapelo Xoki, Sekhukhune United’s Elias Mokwana and Mthethwa will NOT travel to the Ivory Coast but will have to keep themselves ready for any potential emergency call-ups during the tournament.

Kaizer Chiefs interim head coach Cavin Johnson has opened up about the club’s January transfer window plans.
The Glamour Boy have struggled to close the glaring gap between themselves and rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers lifted the MTN8 title already this season while Mamelodi Sundowns also lifted the inaugural African Football League trophy.
Despite looking well off the pace, Johnson is adamant his side don’t need to bolster their squad.

“Like I said earlier, I’m not interested in getting any players at the moment. We need to work with what we have, make sure that they come to the party and make sure that they believe that they are Kaizer Chiefs players.” Cavin Johnson said as quoted by SoccerLaduma.
“And that’s what we gonna work on during the break and now we’ve got a little bit of a holiday.
“I think five or ten days, we get back and we’ve got a little pre-season camp and we see what happens when we come back.”
