Perth’s Formula 1 star power has doubled with McLaren young gun Lando Norris in town to visit former teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
The drivers are all on break ahead of the new season getting underway late next month in Bahrain and the young Englishman has taken full advantage with a trip to Bali before jetting into WA.
Norris posted photos of himself on Ricciardo’s Perth property taking in the summer sun.
The first photo shows Norris on the WA star’s dirt bike track standing topless with a bike helmet over his head before a shot of him standing atop an ATV in the twilight, shrouded in shadow.
The set of three snaps is rounded out by the speed demon wearing a bucket hat while standing on the tangled branches of a fallen gum.
The pair were teammates for two seasons at McLaren and were reportedly close friends despite being direct rivals.
However, Norris showed little sympathy for the Aussie when McLaren unceremoniously axed him at the end of the 2022 season.
Ricciardo took six months off after the axing, fulfilling duties as a reserve driver for his old team, Red Bull.
He eventually returned to the grid mid-season with Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTuari, pushing them up the standings before suffering a wrist injury.
The Perth-born star was also rumoured to be a shot at potentially replacing Sergio Perez as World Champions Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull for 2024 but will have to wait after the Constructor’s Champions decided to stand by the popular Mexican.
Ricciardo will return to the AlphaTauri hot seat with ambitions of returning to the top of the Formula 1 world on February 21 for testing in Sakhir ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix the following weekend.
“I am not going to put a day or date on it, or a year whatever, but coming back into it and jumping back in with the Red Bull family, that is the dream,” Ricciardo told the Beyond the Grid podcast last year.
“To end my career as a Red Bull driver would be perfect.
“Do I still want to be world champion? Yes. Has it been a dream of mine since I was a kid? Yes.
“Maybe it’s just because I’ve seen Max (Verstappen) or whoever else, and they are still waking up the same person.
“It’s just that you take a little bit of pressure off it. It’s not going to change me as a human; therefore, it’s not going to change my life.
“I know my mum and dad are going to look at me the same way whether I’m a world champion or not.
“There is probably a bit of perspective. I still want it, and I still deep down believe I can do it, but it’s not going to change the course of my life.”
