India’s bullet train dream inches closer: 100% Land acquired for Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project

The government on Monday reached a significant milestone in the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor project by 100 percent completion of the acquisition of all 1,389.49 hectares of required land.

According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) statement, they have not only secured the needed land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli but have also awarded all civil contracts for the project.

NHSRCL highlighted specific accomplishments, such as the launch of 120.4km of girders and the completion of 271 km of pier casting.

“The construction of the reinforced concrete (RC) track bed has begun in Surat and Anand,” NHSRCL stated.

It further added that the completion of the first mountain tunnel near Zaroli village in Valsad district, measuring 350 m long and 12.6m in diameter, was achieved in just 10 months.

The statement said, work has started on India’s first undersea rail tunnel, part of the 21 km of tunnels between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata in Maharashtra. The excavation for the Mumbai HSR station is in progress, marking a crucial phase of the project.Various high-speed rail stations along the corridor, including Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati in Gujarat, are at different construction stages. A notable achievement is the erection of the first steel bridge over NH 53 in Surat, spanning 70m and weighing 673 metric tonnes. Out of the 28 planned steel bridges for the project, 16 are in various stages of fabrication.“Bridge construction has been completed for six rivers — Par (Valsad district), Purna (Navsari district), Mindhola (Navsari district), Ambika (Navsari district), Auranga (Valsad district) and Venganiya (Navsari district) — of 24 on the corridor. Work on the Narmada, Tapi, Mahi and Sabarmati bridges is underway,” it added.
