Liverpool legend John Barnes to visit Mandurah for long lunch fundraiser and soccer skills clinic

An English soccer legend will visit Mandurah next week for an exclusive charity event — and share his skills with young local players.

England and Liverpool legend and MBE John Barnes, who played with the top flight club for 10 seasons and his country for 12 through the 1980s and early 1990s, is considered one of the greatest English footballers of all time.

He is winging his way to Mandurah to be the special guest at an Australia Day luncheon at Boundary Island Brewery and will share his extensive knowledge of the game with a new generation of players at another event earlier in the day.

The Mandurah VIP Long Lunch Fundraiser Event at Boundary Island’s Sky Deck from 1-6pm will include a meet and greet with Barnes, along with a gourmet menu.

All profits from the event will go to the Mandurah Volunteer Sea Rescue and Peel Football Club.

The football great turned commentator is still widely remembered for his famous weaving wonder goal for England against Brazil in 1984, which helped secure a 2-0 victory.

Barnes will provide soccer tips and advice to players aged 9-15 from 11am at Poolmart Mandurah Stadium, which is at Peelwood Reserve in Halls Head.

Registrations for the skills clinic have been exhausted but to go on the stand-by list, call 0416 672 838/
