New Delhi: North India has been experiencing severe cold and the weather conditions have been poor, especially in the last few weeks. With the minimum and maximum temperatures plunging each day, it is extremely difficult for people to get out of their warm homes and work as per their regular schedules; the same goes for school students and teachers, who have to be in their educational institutions in the early hours of the day when the weather is the worst. While schools in Delhi have resumed with a change in timings, the District Magistrate of Lucknow has declared a holiday for all schools in the city up to Class 8, keeping in mind the cold wave conditions of the UP capital.

Lucknow Schools Closed Due To Severe Cold

As mentioned earlier, the DM of Lucknow, Surya Pal Gangwar has declared a holiday for all students up to class 8 in the city, due to severe cold. The DM has directed the closure of all schools up to Class 8 until January 18, however, schools from Class 9 to Intermediate will continue operating from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as usual.

When Will Physical Classes Resume?

According to the order of the District Magistrate, all government, non-government, and private schools up to Class 8 have been declared closed until January 18, 2024. However, schools catering to students from Class 9 to Intermediate will remain operational from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This means that for students up to class 8, their physical classes will resume from January 19, 2024.

Online Mode For Students Of Classes 9 And Above

For students in classes 9 to 12, schools are encouraged to conduct online classes where feasible. In cases where physical classes are conducted, the school administration is mandated to ensure students’ protection from the cold by implementing measures such as using heaters in classrooms. As per the instruction of the DM of Lucknow, Surya Pal Gangwar “Students will not be exposed to outdoor sessions, including classes, practicals, or exams. The obligation to wear a uniform by students has been discontinued, and it is recommended that students wear warm clothes capable of providing protection against the cold when attending school.”

Cold Wave Conditions In Whole Of North India, Visibility Very Poor

Dense to very dense fog was reported over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Eastern Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning, with cold wave to severe cold wave conditions prevailing over most parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the Meteorological Department said. The low temperatures are accompanied with dense fog, resulting in poor or almost no visibility in these states, further intensifying the cold conditions.
