Vodafone price increase: How the new mobile plans compare

Vodafone has recently upped the prices of all its postpaid mobile plans by $4 per month but it’s not all bad news.

All plans have added data and, if you’re an existing Vodafone customer, you’ll continue to pay the same price for your plan.

This new pricing only applies to new customers.

Here’s how Vodafone’s pricing is changing across its plans:

  • Small plan: Was $45 for 40GB, now $49 for 50GB
  • Basic plan: Was $55 for 150GB, now $59 for 180GB
  • Essential plan: Was $65 for 300GB, now $69 for 360GB

These plans can be paired with a new phone or used as a SIM-only deal.

This means new Vodafone customers will pay the same as Optus customers, but will receive higher data allowances. For example, Vodafone’s 50GB plan for $49 per month is the price-equivalent to Optus’ 30GB plan.

As expected, of the Big Three telcos, customers will still pay the most on a Telstra plan, with plans starting at $62 per month for 50GB.

Alternatively, there are many other plans from smaller Vodafone network providers to consider. For example, Vodafone’s parent company, TPG, offers a $25-per-month plan with 25GB of data. New customers can get this plan for just $12.50 per month for the first six months.

And despite this plan offering less data, the latest ACCC Internet Activity Report data suggests the average postpaid mobile customer only uses an average of 15.9GB of data per month while prepaid customers use 7.5GB per month.

Here’s a look at other plans on the Vodafone network with at least 20GB:

Vodafone isn’t the only telco to increase its prices. Optus MVNO, amaysim, increased three of its prepaid plans last December between $4 and $80.

Tangerine, which is powered by the Telstra network, also had a price rise in October which affected all customers and equated to an extra $2.10 to $3.10 per month, depending on your plan. Telstra increased the price of all its Upfront mobile plans in July last year.
