The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for paying the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time.
Social grants provide state assistance to vulnerable and needy people, including the Elderly (Older Persons) Grant, Disability Grant, and Childcare Grant. The R350 Grant and Veterans Grant are also paid to approved recipients every month.

Previous disasters could have affected some recipients’ confidence in the SASSA payment system.
Rumours of gold card expiry and missed payments through 2023 are some of the things that didn’t go as planned. Some recipients had delays, while others were mistakenly turned away for their grant payment.

The social agency has promised to do everything possible for a smoother future. The website has been improved for future use, with updates promised to the overall payment system to make things operate better.
SASSA and the future
The future of the social grant system promises to be better: this is clear from the redesigned system, and the updates that phase out cash payment points through Postbank from April, 2024.

Gold Cards won’t expire this year, and the social security agency has promised better sailing this year for all grant recipients.
