Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder previews Nebraska matchup
Caitlin Clark and the Iowa women’s basketball topped Nebraska 92-73 Saturday afternoon on Big Ten Network.
It was a much-needed bounce-back performance for the Hawkeyes (19-2, 8-1 Big Ten), who overcame a slow first half to pull away in the third quarter.
Although Clark didn’t get quite enough points to move up the NCAA women’s basketball scoring leaderboard, she was terrific with her 53rd career double-double (38 points, 10 rebounds), 28 of her points coming in the second half.
Kate Martin was also stellar with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.

FINAL: Iowa 92, Nebraska 73
Iowa cruised over the final few minutes to earn its eighth Big Ten victory of this season.
Q4/2:35 Iowa 84, Nebraska 68
Stuelke, despite shooting just six 3-pointers previously this season, nailed a triple to give Iowa a 12-point lead that might be the dagger to secure an Iowa win.
12 points off the bench from Sydney Affolter has also pushed the Hawkeyes toward a double-digit lead.
Q4/5:00 Iowa 73, Nebraska 60
Although Nebraska keeps staying within striking distance, Clark’s hot second-half shoot has Iowa in the driver’s seat to close this game out.
Nebraska is up to 17 turnovers and is shooting just 37.7% from the field.
Q4/6:40 Iowa 73, Nebraska 56
Clark made perhaps one of her most impressive shots of the season — with the shot clock winding down, Clark pulled up from 30 feet and swished a triple in front of two defenders.
She then made consecutive layups and has 33 points on 11-for-20 shooting, 8-of-15 from downtown.
End 3: Iowa 63, Nebraska 49
Although Nebraska made a bit of a run to end the frame, Iowa won the quarter 27-18 thanks to Clark catching fire and Martin continuing to do all the little things.
Martin is up to 15 points and four assists, taking the reins when Clark went to the bench over the quarter’s final couple of minutes.
Iowa is also already up to 18 fast break points, almost four more than its season average per game.
Q3/1:20 Iowa 61, Nebraska 44
Similarly to the start of the frame, Clark gave her team a jolt with back-to-back 3s, this time from the same spot on the left wing. She’s started 5-for-5 shooting this half for 15 points and is up to 25 for the game.
Q3/4:41 Iowa 49, Nebraska 36
Both teams have gone cold over the last two minutes, but Iowa still appears in full control of the game.
The Hawkeyes continue to dominate teams in the turnover margin and currently hold a 14-8 advantage. They are also out-shooting the opposition 50% to 31.6%.
Martin has been solid all afternoon. She has 11 points and four rebounds.
Q3/6:53 Iowa 48, Nebraska 35
Clark looks much more comfortable to start this half, hitting back-to-back triples to force a Nebraska timeout. She’s up to 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting with seven rebounds and four assists.
Iowa’s 13-point lead is its largest of the game.
Q3/7:30 Iowa 45, Nebraska 35
In what might be the highlight of the game, Molly Davis notched a rebound despite laying flat on her back.
The unique play energized the Carver-Hawkeye Arena crowd, already excited by Iowa’s strong start to the second half.
End 2: Iowa 36, Nebraska 31
Bluder’s timeout worked wonders as Iowa immediately went on a 9-0 run, sparked primarily by Kate Martin.
Clark also nailed a deep 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer. The triple tied Katie Benzan for seventh on the NCAA women’s basketball’s career 3-pointers made list. Clark has 10 points and three assists.
Q2/1:54 Iowa 27, Nebraska 31
After allowing those two early wide-open triples to Clark, Nebraska has done a much better job contesting her shots and not allowing her to gain rhythm by dribbling. As a result, she’s currently shooting just 2-for-9 from the floor with seven points.
Nebraska, meanwhile, has found its shooting stroke, with its fourth triple extending its lead to four points and forcing a timeout from Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder.
Q2/4:28 Iowa 22, Nebraska 19
The teams traded leads to start the second frame, with the Hawkeyes unable to string multiple scores together. Clark has missed three of her four shot attempts in the second quarter so far but got to the free-throw line and made both.
These teams have combined for 16 turnovers already, 10 by Nebraska.
End 1: Iowa 14, Nebraska 11
After trailing by as much as nine points and shooting 1-for-11 to start, Nebraska settled in and quickly made it a one-point game before a last-second jumper by Iowa’s Gabbie Marshall.
The Hawkeyes forced six turnovers but committed five of their own, squandering several prime opportunities to take firm control of the contest.
Clark only took two shots, both from behind the arc. She has three points and two assists. Hannah Stuelke leads the team with four points.
Q1/2:13 Iowa 10, Nebraska 5
Nebraska missed its first eight shot attempts, six of which came from behind the arc as Iowa’s defense appears content with allowing a heavy dose of deep jump shots.
The Hawkeyes’ offense, meanwhile, has been able to get almost any open shot it wants, but four turnovers and cold shooting (3-for-10) to start have hampered the team’s ability to build a larger lead.
Q1/8:11 Iowa 5, Nebraska 0
Nebraska called a quick timeout after Clark was left wide open twice on 3-point attempts, making one, before adding a bounce-pass assist to Kate Martin on a fast break.
Pregame: Caitlin Clark could climb NCAA women’s basketball scoring list
After passing Baylor legend Brittney Griner for fourth on the NCAA women’s basketball’s career scoring list on Jan. 16, Clark is set to again climb the leaderboard.
Entering this contest, she is just 43 points from surpassing Jackie Stiles for third place on the list, a single-game mark Clark is more than capable of achieving.
