CBSE board exam 2024 scheduled to begin in February
CBSE released the official examination schedule for class 10 and class 12 board exam 2024 earlier this month.
The CBSE Class 10 board exam is scheduled from February 15 to March 13, 2024, while the CBSE Class 12 board exam is set to begin on February 15 and run until April 2, 2024.
The CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams in 2024 will be held in single shifts, from 10:30AM to 1:30PM. Prior to writing the exam, you will have an additional 15 minutes to read through the question paper.
New changes introduced in CBSE board exam 2024
The previous year saw the introduction of various new policies in the education sector, with the introduction of National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for school students, under the scope of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. CBSE announced significant changes in its curriculum and exam processes, aligning with the NCF and NEP. Here are the broad takeaways-
Changes in scoring system and merit lists
Starting from 2024, CBSE won’t give overall divisions, distinctions, or aggregate scores for class 10 and 12 board exams. If a student takes more than five subjects, the admitting institution or employers will decide which five to consider. This move aims to ease pressure on students by eliminating the practice of issuing merit lists and discouraging unhealthy competition.
Change in Accountancy answer sheets: No separate answer book with tables from 2024
Starting with the 2024 board exam, there will be no separate answer book with printed tables for Accountancy paper. The board decided to standardise the accounting answer sheets with the format used for all the other subjects.
Board exams to be held twice a year with flexible subject choices
Last year, the Union Minister of Education had announced that students will be able to take board exams twice a year, with the option of retaining their best score from both attempts. Opting for this biannual exam will be voluntary, allowing students to choose the higher score while reducing stress associated with the traditional, high-stakes nature of board exams. Furthermore, candidates will have more freedom to choose their subjects, as there will be no stream restrictions. However, they will be required to study two languages, one of which must be Indian.
Students participating in Olympiads and sports during the board exams will be given separate chance to re-appear
CBSE has made special provisions for students who participate in sporting events or international Olympiads during the board exam period. If their schedules conflict with the final written exams, the board will schedule special exams for class 10 and 12 students later. However, this arrangement does not include a separate opportunity for compartment or practical exams.
