‘Thrilled’ Celtic fringe star has loan move confirmed after playing just 27 MINUTES for Brendan Rodgers this season

CELTIC will NOT welcome forgotten man Marco Tilio back from the Asian Cup.

The winger is currently on Socceroo duty with the Australian national team after recovering from the injury that caused him to miss the first half of the season at Celtic.

Tilio has helped Australia through to the knock-out stages of the Asian Cup.

However he won’t have the chance to add more appearances to the two already in the Hoops as he’s heading back Down Under on loan.

Melbourne City announced the return of their ‘fan favourite’ just 24 hours before the January transfer window closed in Scotland.

The 22-year-old spent three seasons with the club before making the move to Celtic.

And the City Group club thanked the Hoops for allowing their man back.

Melbourne City Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said: “We’re thrilled to have Marco back at City. His impact during his previous stay with us was significant, and we believe his technical skills, pace and work ethic will add another dimension to our attack

“Marco’s return is a testament to the strong relationships we maintain, and we’re grateful to Celtic FC for facilitating this loan.”

Coach Aurelio Vidmar, added: “We are delighted to welcome a player of Marco’s calibre back to Melbourne City. His technical ability, vision and ability to run at defenders will make him an asset to our team.

“We’re confident his return will provide a boost as we look to continue to climb the table across the back end of the season.”

The move also puts Tilio back in focus ahead of the Paris Olympics where he could yet earn a place in the squad.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be back at City. The memories and experiences from my time here are unforgettable, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success once again.

“The support from the fans has always been incredible, and I’m eager to create more memorable moments together this season.”

Since heading out to Qatar with the Socceroos he’s made one appearance – as a sub in the 1-1 group stage draw with Uzbekistan.

He could come up against Hoops team-mates Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun in the quarter final clash with South Korea.
