Kaizer Chiefs legend urge the club to retain Johnson as coach

Kaizer Chiefs Legend Tinashe Nengomasha has urged his former club to retain Cavin Johnson as coach after the season ends.

Johnson is currently serving as Amakhosi’s interim coach after the club sacked Molefi Ntseki back in October.

Since he took over, the 65-year-old has won four out of the seven games but more importantly, Chiefs have shown signs of improvement and players seemed to play more with freedom under him.

Speaking to FARPost, Nengomasha said Kaizer Chiefs needed players who have a strong mentality to rise to the occasion.

“Chiefs is a team that needs players with a mentality that fits well with what is expected of them.

Kaizer Chiefs legend wants players to show passion

“When you see fans getting angry, it’s because they are not getting what they are used to. They are used to winning, and perhaps the calibre of players they see is not what they want. So, at the end of the day, you see that it’s much better to have a system of promoting the top players from juniors. Those ones will have a never-say-die spirit,” he told FARPost.

“It’s exactly the mentality I saw from the likes of Scara Ngobese during our playing days. Right now, it’s very different.

“My wish is to see that trend giving us results. Those boys carry the team at heart because they know the system well. They joined the team because of their love and passion for the club,” said Nengomasha.

Kaizer Chiefs management appear to be pleased with Johnson’s work but only time will tell if the ex-Platinum Stars coach will be rewarded with a permanent contract.
