Iowa women’s basketball vs Penn State recap: Clark, Stuelke’s big game

Caitlin Clark and No. 2 Iowa women’s basketball beat Penn State Thursday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Although Clark’s climb toward Kelsey Plum’s NCAA women’s basketball all-time scoring record remains a hot topic, it was Hannah Stuelke’s 47-point breakout that stole the show this evening.

Clark is now just 39 points from breaking the scoring record.

It’s hard to overstate how well Stuelke played tonight. 47 points on 17-for-20 shooting, good for the second-most points in program history and the most ever in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Clark did well to keep passing her the ball as well, finishing with a season-high 15 assists in addition to 27 points.

Although Lisa Bluder hasn’t taken out Iowa’s starters, the Hawkeyes have this game all but wrapped up.

After a physical four quarters, however, the teams continue to foul frequently and both sides are visibly frustrated.

Hannah Stuelke hits 40 points

After a brief fourth-quarter rest, Stuelke came back and used a terrific post move to reach 40 points.

She’s shooting 16-for-18 from the field and 8-for-14 from the free throw line.

She is the third Big Ten player with 40 points in a game this season.
