‘We are not a selling club’

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rulani Mokwena, has distanced himself from reports linking Khuliso Mudau with a move away from the club.

Mudau gained the attention of English Premier League side Burnley late last year following his impressive performance with Downs and the national team.

He also played a crucial role in helping Bafana Bafana finish third in this year’s African Cup of Nations tournament. The 28-year-old has expressed his desire to leave Masandawana for Europe if an opportunity presents itself.

Mokwena stated that the club is not interested in selling players.

Mokwena could be forced to let Mudau move to Europe

“We are not a selling club, and that’s very clear. But the human being in me understands that life is about growth and there are targets,” he told FARPost last year.

“It’s the same way I dealt with Cassius Mailula’s situation. As difficult as it was for us to let go of Cassius, when there are big opportunities and a possibility for growth that makes sense for all parties involved, Sundowns coach included.”

Mokwena further added that he cannot entertain the talks about Mudau’s possible move at the moment because there’s nothing concrete on the table.

“He’s an unbelievable player, an incredible human being, kind-hearted, and very important to our team,” he said.

“So it’s difficult to entertain such talks because it’s just talks and there’s nothing concrete. And if I answer it as Sundowns coach, I would say hands off. It’s the same way you go to Manchester City and you ask for Kyle Walker. It’s very difficult.”

It remains to be seen if Mokwena will allow Mudau a chance to play in Europe.
