Music festival Groovin the Moo has been forced to cancel its upcoming regional tour across the country, including its South West show.
The once-popular festival was scheduled to make its way back to Bunbury’s Hay Park on May 11.
In an email on Thursday morning, event organisers gave ticketholders across Australia the bad news, saying they hadn’t sold enough tickets to make it viable, despite tickets only going on sale two weeks ago.
“We are extremely disappointed to announce that the Groovin the Moo 2024 tour has been forced to cancel,” the email said.
“Ticket sales have not been sufficient to deliver a regional festival of this kind.”
The 2024 line-up was packed with something for everyone — from GTM alumni to international guests and a sprinkling of new favourites. Familiar faces DMA’s, Hot Dub Time Machine, The Jungle Giants, Mallrat and San Cisco were to return to GTM, along with Alison Wonderland for the first time in five years.
Event organisers confirmed all tickets would be refunded automatically.
“Thank you to everybody who has supported the festival,” the email said.
“We hope to be able to bring Groovin the Moo back to regional communities in the future. There will be no further comments from Groovin the Moo at this stage.”
It is just the second time the festival has had to cancel in 19 years of bringing music to regional places across Australia.
