Public advised to help vehicle and property theft amid a rise in local crime in Scarborough and Innaloo

Scarborough Police’s officer-in-charge has spread the message to stay vigilant within the Scarborough and Innaloo areas amid a rise in local crime.

Scarborough Police’s top cop Haydn Farrow said property and vehicle theft had risen in the district, especially for vehicles in Innaloo, and reminded the public to help in preventing opportunistic thiefs.

“Many of these offences happen overnight and it is a timely reminder, especially during this warm weather, to be security aware,” he said.

“Scarborough Police is working closely with the City of Stirling community safety team and we carry out regular patrols throughout the district, with a real focus of reducing and preventing crime.

“By following some really simple steps, you will reduce the chance of becoming a victim of crime.”

Sen. Sgt Farrow shared the theft-prevention advice of always parking a vehicle in a safe place such as a parking garage, a busy place with plenty of lighting or “close to where you are going”.

He said removing valuable items from vehicles and ensuring a vehicle stays locked is key along with installing anti-theft screws to help prevent theft of number plates.

The City of Stirling Security carry out 24/7 patrols and can also be contacted to report suspicious activity on 1300 365 356.
