A Massive Meat Spill Clogged One Of Oakland’s Arterial Roads

A truck spilled its load of raw chicken and beef all across Interstate 880 in Oakland, California, causing several meat-induced spin-outs last Friday afternoon around 5 p.m.. The meat spill happened close to the Oakland Coliseum where country singer Zach Bryan was performing that night, hamstringing travel for commuters and concert goers from miles around. The meat spill caused dangerous road conditions, forcing lane closures before Caltrans was called to handle all of the meat. The nightmarish job of cleaning up all the meat on the roadway took Caltrans over four hours, and the meaty mess caused a 9 mile-long backup on the interstate.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the truck that’s responsible for the massive meat mishap likely wasn’t even aware that he was leaking raw meat all over the interstate. CHP is asking for anyone who has any information about the possible identity of the meaty mess maker to contact their Oakland office. The road meat that the driver spilled had serious implications for drivers in the region, and I can’t even think about how bad it smelled. NBC Los Angeles reported,

The incident happened not far from the Oakland Coliseum, where singer Zach Bryan performed on Friday night. It impacted those who were trying to get to the concert and others trying to get back home from work.

For Zach Bryan concertgoers like Brian Navarro of Santa Cruz, the drive wasn’t exactly ideal.

”We see the ETA on Google Maps. It’s just as bad,” he said.”

Thanks to the brave folks at Caltrans for handling all that meat so the people of Oakland could safely resume their travels. The cleanup was not a job for anyone squeamish, and honestly looking at the footage is nauseating to me, so mad props to the Oakland Caltrans team.
