Observations from Monday’s Jets practice.
Pick ’em
Safety Tony Adams’ impressive camp continued when he intercepted Aaron Rodgers during a move-the-ball period of practice. Rodgers escaped the pocket to his right and threw the ball up for grabs down the middle of the field. Cornerback Jimmy Moreland had an interception with the third-team defense and Sauce Gardner came out to the field for what seemed like a choreographed dancing celebration.
Off center
Wes Schweitzer — not rookie second-round pick Joe Tippman — looks like the leading contender to challenge returning three-year starting center Connor McGovern. But Schweitzer misfired two shotgun snaps, including one that sailed over Rodgers’ head and led to a broken-play incompletion. Head coach Robert Saleh indicated that he wants to settle on a starter shortly after the Aug. 12 game against the Panthers.
Caught my eye
The defensive line beat the offensive line all the way across the depth chart. Carl Lawson had a “sack” with the starters and Will McDonald had one against Mekhi Becton with the second-teamers. Offensive line remains a big concern with left tackle Duane Brown sidelined.
Rodgers report
It wasn’t a sharp day for Rodgers even beyond the interception. He completed 7 of 15 passes, but one was a perfectly placed cross-his-body throw on the sideline to speedster Mecole Hardman, who caught the ball in stride and never stopped running. Allen Lazard didn’t help his close friend with a couple balls off his fingertips but he ended practice with a touchdown catch over the middle.
Injury report
Corey Davis (illness) was with the rehab group to get in some conditioning work during the first half of practice and could return to Tuesday’s practice, Saleh said. OT Yodny Cajuste was not spotted after suffering an apparent injury Sunday.
