ActionSA has called for urgent working cooperation among health bodies, parents, communities, and Ulwaluko custodians following tragedies at initiation schools this summer.
“While respecting the cultural significance of the initiation, the alarming fatalities demand immediate action,” said Athol Trollip, the ActionSA Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson.
The party reported that over 30 boys, who underwent this sacred traditional rite of passage into manhood, died reportedly due to complications.
“The over 30 deaths of Ulwaluko initiates in the Eastern Cape this summer season reflect a collective failure, and we urge custodians to eliminate misconduct for the safety of our youth and young boys,” Trollip appealed.
