Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway, has revealed she once had to kiss ten men during an audition for a role to test for onscreen ‘chemistry’.
She told V Magazine, “Back in the 2000s… it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors.
“I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labelled difficult, so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it.”
Hathaway wasn’t the only one to speak out on the treatment of actresses.
British-American actress Minnie Driver claims female film bosses mistreat actresses more than their male counterparts do.
The Good Will Hunting star said women directors and producers were more likely to see actresses as sex objects or discriminate against them over their age.
The Oscar-nominee claimed she was recently fired from a film because the woman in charge “decided she wanted her friend to be in my part”.
Ms Driver, 54, said she had felt “incredibly disposable” and added, “Women are still treating women as badly as we say men have been treating us.”
Her comments come after Hollywood producer Carol Baum said last week that White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney was “not pretty” and “can’t act” .
Ms Sweeney, 26, responded, “How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.”
Speaking to The Shift podcast, Ms Driver said of women filmmakers, “They fought to be a man… so they behave like men. The women have often times been worse in terms of their spreading that narrative or keeping that narrative going.”
