Aidan Hutchinson’s sister might be the Lions’ good luck charm.
Mia Hutchinson, the older sister of the star Lions defensive end, took center stage Sunday at Ford Field, where she performed the national anthem before Detroit won its first home game of the season, a 20-6 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
“Singing the national anthem in front of so many beautiful (and roaring) faces was a dream come true,” Mia gushed Sunday on Instagram.
“It was made even more special by wearing my great grandfather’s WWII dog tags… kept him close to my heart.
“Endlessly grateful for my family/support system for their undying love & brutally honest critiques.”
Hutchinson, the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, embraced his sister after the moving performance.
Matriarch Melissa Hutchinson also celebrated her daughter’s performance.
“Still recovering lol, u blew the freakin roof off,” she commented on Mia’s Instagram post.
It was an exciting afternoon all around for the Hutchinson family.
Hutchinson tallied two sacks, one of which resulted in a fumble by Atlanta quarterback Desmond Ridder late in the fourth quarter and solidified Detroit’s second win of the year.
The former Michigan product celebrated a fourth-quarter sack with the “Stanky Legg” dance.
The 23-year-old had four combined tackles on the day, adding to his eight tackles so far this season.
“It was great, man,” Hutchinson said postgame, according to MLive.com. “I was waiting to do the Stanky Legg for about three games now. It’s been in my head for a very long time. So, yeah, I’m going to have to start thinking about some new dances now.”
The Lions’ defense ended the day with seven sacks.
“We played a physical, violent game,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “Our defense was outstanding. (Coordinator Aaron Glenn) did a helluva job. We looked like a hungry, hungry team. We looked like a hungry, violent defense. I mean, we got takeaways, tackles, (tackle for losses). Guys were flying around to the football, pretty good in coverage and we were around the quarterback — a lot.”
The Lions will head to Green Bay to play the Packers (2-1) on Thursday.
