Alabama football experienced heartbreak in the Rose Bowl on Monday as the Crimson Tide lost to Michigan in a 27-20 overtime defeat to wrap up its 2023 college football season.
Quarterback Jalen Milroe couldn’t secure a touchdown from 3 yards out on fourth-and-goal on the final play of overtime, and the Tide was forced to watch as the Wolverines celebrated their first CFP national championship game appearance in the program’s history.
Alabama surrendered six sacks to Michigan’s defense, losing the battle in the trenches. Midway through the third quarter, the Crimson Tide was up 17-13 and appeared poised to advance into Michigan territory, but a costly fumble by quarterback Jalen Milroe put the ball back into the hands of Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Alabama failed to score another touchdown from that point onwards.
