Bafana have a steely spine
Teboho Mokoena is grabbing the headlines and pulling the strings, but Sphephele ‘Yaya’ Sithole is doing a whole lot of dirty work alongside the Sundowns man. Together, they’ve become a formidable central pairing that can go deep into the tournament. Mothobi Mvala has been superb in the centre of defence for South Africa, helping them to three clean sheets in four games (huge credit also to skipper Ronwen Williams), but the work Sithole does shielding the back four is invaluable. If he can keep it up, the 24-year-old won’t be playing in the second tier of Portugal for long.
