If you didn’t get your shopping fix over Memorial Day weekend, we have some seriously great news for you: Amazon is set to host another one of its massive sales events — otherwise known as Prime Day — that’ll feature some of the retailer’s biggest deals of the year. We’ll admit, after a busy spring shopping season, we expected to give our credit cards some respite, but with new details emerging about Amazon’s Prime Day 2024 — including when the year’s biggest sale will take place — it seems our shopping duties are actually just getting started.

Amazon Prime Day is one of our favorite sales events because it falls right in the heart of summer — so you can treat yourself to a number of seasonal essentials guilt-free and while they’re on major sale. Best of all, the deals span all major categories — from fashion and beauty to home, tech, pets, and more; no product is off limits.

While Amazon has remained hush about the specifics of the event thus far — like what exactly will be on sale or if it will follow the same format as prior years’ events — the retailer just gave us a little teaser on when exactly it’ll take place.

Ahead, we break down what exactly Amazon Prime Day is, when it will take place, and what deals shoppers might be able to expect — plus, a few you can take advantage of in the meantime.

What Is Prime Day?

In short: Prime Day is Amazon’s answer to Black Friday, except bigger, better, and even more consumer friendly because the deals span a number of categories and are available to shop on one singular site. The global savings event takes place over a two-day period and encompasses some of Amazon’s biggest deals of the season on a variety of bestselling products; last year’s showcase featured major markdowns on the editor-loved Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ($24) and Samsung Frame TV ($800, originally $948), to name a few.

When Is Prime Day 2024?

Amazon has yet to announce the event’s official dates for Amazon Prime Day 2024, but the retailer did confirm that it’ll take place in July. Past Prime Days have taken place on or around July 15 — aka Amazon’s birthday — so we can expect this year’s sale will likely fall around that date once again.

How Much Is an Amazon Prime Membership?

With an Amazon Prime Membership, members can get access to exclusive deals come Prime Day 2024, as well as perks like free shipping. As of right now, an Amazon Prime Membership ($15) is less than $20 per month, and the retailer also offers a 30-day free trial for new users.

What Deals Can You Expect at Prime Day 2024?

We likely won’t get an idea of what exactly will be on sale for Prime Day 2024 until the savings event kicks off. But in previous years, we’ve seen can’t-miss markdowns on items that span a range of categories. Products like the Bissell Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner ($99, originally $124) and The Gym People Longline Sports Bra ($23, originally $27) are always big-ticket items, along with savings on bestsellers like the iRobot Roomba i3 Vacuum ($289, originally $350) or the travel-ready Apple Airtags ($79, originally $99). Surprise deals on finds like the Telena Belt Bag ($8, originally $11), Levoit Air Purifier ($85, originally $100), and Crest 3D Whitestrips ($30, originally $46) have also proven to be big hits.
