ANGE POSTECOGLOU is reportedly eyeing another goalkeeper in January.
The former Celtic boss is looking to add to his squad in the upcoming transfer window and is said to be keen to bring in another stopper, despite already signing No.1 Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli in the summer.
Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, 21, is at the top of his shortlist as he prepares to raid the English Championship club for the Republic of Ireland international.
That’s according to Football Insider, who claim the North London club have been keeping close tabs on the goalie in recent months.
Bazunu has something in common with the Aussie boss after spending time at Celtic in 2018.
The 21-cap international never signed a contract with the Hoops but he was handed a trial in Glasgow at the age of 16 after impressing for boyhood club Shamrock Rovers.
He joined them for a brief stint five years ago before returning to Dublin amid interest from Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle.
It didn’t take him long to return to the UK though as Manchester City pipped their rivals to his signature and agreed a £360,000 deal to bring him to the Etihad.
However, he decided to wait several months before making the move as he wanted to complete his education in the Irish school system first.
Bazunu joined the Citizens in February, 2019 but failed to make a single competitive appearance for the club.
He was loaned out to Rochdale and Portsmouth during that time and gained valuable first team experience after only appearing six times for the Rovers senior side prior to his switch.
It earned him his £12million transfer to Southampton in the summer of 2022 and he has been first choice for the Saints since.
And now Tottenham could be his next destination with the report suggesting Postecoglou wants him in January.
Scouts have watched him in action and it’s claimed they’ve been “hugely impressed” by his developments.
The manager has three first team goalkeepers currently in his squad – Vicario, Fraser Forster and Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham are keen to terminate the France stopper’s contract and agree a pay-off with the player though after falling out of favour this season.
That would make room for Bazunu, who could challenge Vicario for the No.1 spot in North London.
