Health and safety officials stepped in to halt the process.

They said untrained operatives were at the Giro Building in Bootle, Merseyside, and dangerous asbestos was being disturbed.

A business linked to the Taylors bought the former Santander HQ for £3.2million in March.

Permission to demolish it was granted in 2019 — but only for three years.

Selling the site once it had been cleared would have netted a £10million profit.

Meanwhile, August’s suspected arson attack on the 18th century Crooked House in Dudley, West Mids, is still under police investigation.

The Taylors were approached for comment.
