Apple gives Siri a new look and AI-powered features

Apple’s digital assistant has lagged behind competitors for quite some time, but later in the year, Siri will get a makeover and tons of new features powered by Apple Intelligence.

According to Apple, the intent is to make Siri more natural, relevant, and personal. One way that Apple is changing Siri is by turning the digital assistant into a glowing light that wraps around the entire screen when you start talking to it. Summoning Siri is also easier—if you don’t want to use your voice, you can double-tap the bottom of the screen instead.

Going forward, you’ll be able to speak to Siri more naturally. For instance, if you make a mistake while asking Siri to call one of your contacts or map a route to a specific location, you can correct yourself mid-sentence without having to start over.

Apple also imbued Siri with heaps of knowledge about Apple products and services. If you aren’t sure how to do something with your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can now ask Siri to get a detailed answer rather than having to scour the internet.

Siri will also be more helpful when it comes to performing actions within apps. You will be able to ask Siri to open a particular book in the Apple Books app, search Fitness+ for new yoga classes, add a photo to an email you’re drafting, or send an article to a group of friends. Developers can build these features into third-party apps as well.

You won’t have to provide as much context, either, as Siri will be more aware of how everything in your device is connected. You’ll be able to ask Siri to find a photo of your driver’s license, find the ID number, and copy and paste it on a form. You can also ask about upcoming flight details, and Siri will be able to find them in your email or calendar.
