Applecross builders Byte Construct take home major industry award for Village Green Karawara redevelopment

The company behind a major redevelopment in Perth’s south has proven why its grass is greener after taking home a prestigious building award.

Applecross-based builders Byte Construct won the 2024 Masters Builders Excellence in Construction Award in the best refurbishment or renovation $5m – $10m category for its redevelopment of Village Green Karawara.

Village Green — previously named Waterford Plaza — is on Manning Road, metres from Curtin University.

The shopping centre was originally named Village Green when it was bought by the Atzemis family in 1991.

Phase one of the redevelopment was completed in April after a major upgrade to its design features.

Alfresco dining, bike racks, charging stations, lighting and more shade were added, creating a “cohesive and vibrant” outdoor area.

There has also been a major base-build fit-out of five vacant food and beverage spaces.

The centre now has more than 20 dining options, including Grill’d, Yang’s Dumpings and Tshering Gyeltshen’s Bhutanese restaurant, Druk.

“We are proud to accept this award on behalf of all involved and thank everyone for their commitment to excellence,” Byte Construct managing director Terry Hare said.
