Developers have revealed when the $13 million Long Point Brewing Co will open its doors after the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel gave the project its approval this week.
The MODAP had delayed considering the project in June over a parking shortfall at the site.
Developers were given 180 days to get the tick from the WA Planning Commission to share a carpark with nearby golf course Links Kennedy Bay to make up for the shortfall.
MODAP’s approval encompasses a two-storey tavern, microbrewery, short-stay accommodation and boat access by a planned jetty along the foreshore precinct of Kennedy Bay in Port Kennedy.
Construction is set to begin later this year and the doors to open in early 2026.
The development features a two-storey brewpub called Long Point Brewing Co, including a craft brewery, restaurant and function space capable of accommodating up to 500 guests.
Long Point Brewing Co is a joint venture between Shane Wormall of Wormall Group and WA Beach & Golf Resort (WABGR).
Mr Wormall, who lives in Port Kennedy, said he’d always dreamed of opening a brewery close to home.
“As one of the last north-facing coastal opportunities in WA, Kennedy Bay is of a world-class nature and should be celebrated as such,” he said.
“Long Point Brewing Co will be a casual, family-friendly venue that welcomes you with thongs and sandy feet.
“Our mission is to provide an incredible guest experience, plenty of locally crafted quality beers and a flame-grilled inspired menu.”
WABGR director Lou D’Alessandro said the microbrewery would be a substantial addition to the Kennedy Bay community and town centre.
“This development reiterates our dedication to establishing valued amenities that elevate the Kennedy Bay region,” he said.
“The brewery will not only provide a boost to the local economy but it will also serve as a cultural hub and destination driver, attracting tourists and providing a unique space for community gatherings.”
The project is expected to support 100 jobs during construction and provide 35 full-time jobs once the doors open.
It is estimated about 180,000 guests will visit the tourism hot spot annually.
