Australia have lost patience with wicketkeeper Alex Carey and replaced him with Josh Inglis for their crucial World Cup clash with South Africa.
After a duck in the opening-game defeat against India, Carey was left out for Thursday night’s match in Lucknow.
As expected, out-of-sorts allrounder Cameron Green makes way for fit-again Marcus Stoinis.
But the Carey decision comes as a surprise despite his recent form struggles with the bat, as well as during the Test tour of India earlier this year.
Captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to send South Africa in, after Australia’s dismal performance batting first on a tricky wicket against India.
But the Proteas’ power-packed batting unit is coming off smashing 5-428 – the highest total in ODI World Cup history – in their resounding opening-game win against Sri Lanka.
Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram all smashed blistering centuries against Sri Lanka.
Temba Bavuma’s team responded from being 0-2 down in a recent ODI series against Australia to win the final three matches in the five-game series in a big confidence boost for South Africa.
