Australia have rested Pat Cummins and opted to bowl first against Scotland as England watch on nervously and await their Twenty20 World Cup fate.
Mitch Marsh confirmed Cummins and Josh Hazlewood would miss the last Group B game in St Lucia, with Mitchell Starc and Ashton Agar coming in.
Australia are already guaranteed passage through to the Super Eight stage of the tournament, where they are likely to be grouped with India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
But England’s fate hangs on the clash against Scotland, after the title holders successfully accounted for Namibia in a rain-affected clash earlier in the day.
An Australia win will send England through to the Super Eights, while a Scotland victory would allow the associate nation to progress ahead of the defending champions.
Australia quick Hazlewood had joked earlier in the week that Australia might consider doing their best to knock their oldest rivals out of the tournament.
But Andrew McDonald’s team have since been adamant they want to progress through to the next stage in form with a win.
“It’s the same as any other game, it’s a World Cup game. We have a lot of respect for Scotland. It should be a hard-fought contest,” Marsh said.
“But we’re playing for Australia. We’re here to win.”
