Australia bring back Starc, bowl first against India

Australia have brought Mitchell Starc back and opted to play their big three quicks as they fight to keep their Twenty20 World Cup hopes alive against India.

Captain Mitch Marsh won the toss and sent India in to bat in St Lucia, against a team yet to taste defeat in this tournament.

Regardless of the result, Australia will have to wait until the outcome of Afghanistan and Bangladesh on Tuesday (AEDT) to see if they progress.

India currently top Group of the Super Eight stage going into the final day on four points, while both Australia and Afghanistan are on two points. Bangladesh are winless.

All four teams remain with a chance of progressing to the semi-finals, with net run-rate to be used to split teams if they finish equal on points.

Australia’s net run-rate is currently superior to Afghanistan, however that could change quickly on Tuesday if either team has a big win.

After opting to go with a third spinner in Ashton Agar against Afghanistan on Sunday, Australia have left the tweaker out against India and brought Starc back in.

India are unchanged from the team that beat Bangladesh on Sunday, carrying three spinners into the match.

Australia’s clash with India comes just 35 hours after their loss to Afghanistan finished, having had to fly from St Vincent to St Lucia in the time between.
