AVP finals in Manhattan Beach, Chicago to be televised – Daily News

For beach volleyball fans who already miss the Olympic competition under the Eiffel Tower, many of the top U.S. players will be in televised action in the upcoming weeks.

Four U.S. teams will be among the favorites in the men’s and women’s tournaments at this week’s AVP Manhattan Beach Open. On the women’s side, quarterfinalists Kelly Chen and Sara Hughes along with Taryn Kloth and Kristin Nuss will compete. On the men’s side, Olympic quarterfinalists Andy Benesh and Miles Partain along with the team of Chase Budinger and Miles Evans will be in the field.

The men’s and women’s finals of the AVP Manhattan Beach Open will air Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. on ION. On Sept. 1, the AVP’s Chicago Open, also considered an AVP Heritage series event, will have its finals televised on the CW Network (1 p.m., Pacific Time).

The Manhattan Beach Open, which runs Friday through Sunday, is considered one of the biggest events in pro beach volleyball and will also feature 2020 Olympic gold medalists April Ross and Alix Klineman on the women’s side, along with 2008 gold medalist Phil Dalhausser in the men’s tournament.

“There has been incredible excitement at the Olympics in Paris with the sport of beach volleyball,” AVP chief operating officer Robert Corvino said in a press release. “This will be the first opportunity coming out of Paris to watch these incredible athletes on the men’s and women’s sides.”

Winners at both the Manhattan Beach and Chicago events earn an automatic bid into the inaugural AVP League, which begins in September.
