Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration: The Maharashtra State Government has announced a public holiday on January 22 for the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha (Consecration) ceremony.
As per official orders, all schools – government or private schools, colleges in the state will remain closed. Earlier the Union government had declared a half-day on January 22, 2024 in all central government establishments across the country.
The Maharashtra state government decision to declare the day as a public holiday follows suits of various other states – which have already declared a holiday to celebrate the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. The Ram temple inauguration event will be undertaken by the Prime Minister on January 22, and more than 7,000 spectetors have been invited. The list includes prominent politicians, film personalities, sportspersons and industrialists among other popular individuals.
Maharashtra state minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha had earlier written to Chief Minister Shinde, urging him to declare a holiday on January 22, owing to Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony. A public holiday has now been declared in the state.
Considering public sentiments various states such as Chhattisgarh, Goa and others have announced a partial or full closure of schools and colleges, along with government offices. In case of partial closures, office hours of government institutions are to resume 2:30PM onwards that day.

Uttar Pradesh
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared a partial closure of all educational institutions on January 22 in preparation for the consecration ceremony of the new idol of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya. This decision was announced officially.
Haryana
The Haryana government opted to temporarily close schools on January 22. Additionally, to uphold the sanctity of the consecration ceremony, the consumption of liquor will be prohibited throughout the state on that day.
Goa
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant officially announced a public holiday on January 22. The special holiday is dedicated to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. Chief Minister Sawant highlighted the significance of this event, emphasizing its importance by declaring a holiday for government servants in the state as well.
Chhattisgarh
The Chhattisgarh government declared an official holiday for all educational institutions across the state on January 22, in honor of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. State Minister Brijmohan Agrawal made the announcement while emphasizing the significance of the event. He also announced a weekly train service for Ayodhya to further commemorate this historic event, in addition to the announcement of the holiday.
Various other states have announced partial closure or half-day for government offices, in accordance with Union government’s order to close offices till 2:30 PM on that day, to allow employees celebrate the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha or consecration ceremony.
