BAGPIPE-MAD Germans who set up the smallest Scots boozer outside of the country are urging the Tartan Army to pay a visit during Euro 2024.
The Scots enthusiasts are keen for fans to join them in the tiny 97ft square feet Ruins Pub Loch Salbke which has 300 whiskies and native beers on tap.
Locals all wear kilts in the boozer, a haunt of former Scots Guards who have retired in Germany and now teach other drinkers how to play the bagpipes.
Boss Joerg Sorge, 63, says only a handful of people can cram in to the inn in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, but there is space outside for camper vans.
Joerg, a stonemason, said: “We believe we have the smallest Scots pub outside of Scotland. We’ve not found a smaller one.
“We maintain Scottish traditions and I’m a massive fan of Scotland and the Scottish way of life. I’ve travelled there for years.
“This is something we’re trying to bring closer to the people here in Germany. Since we started the word has spread and more people have become interested.
“We now have 300 open bottles of whisky. It’s quite a good selection with tipples from most Scottish distilleries. Some people have more but for us it’s enough.
“We also enjoy the bagpipes and have some expat Scots coming here to teach. There is a vibrant bagpipe scene in Germany. We all know each other.
“I’m sure we’re also the only pub in this area that does Scottish beer. We currently have Belhaven Black which we import. We’ve had quite a few others.”
He went on: “All Scots are more than welcome here, especially during the Euros.
“But please bear in mind it’s a very small pub. If we all stand we can probably fit 10 in so if there are 500 Scots at the door we’ll have a serious problem.
“The best thing is to let us know in advance. We have an outside area if anyone wants to come with their camper van.”
The bar is 330 miles from Munich where Scotland play Germany in the tournament opener.
It is 274 miles from Cologne where Steve Clarke’s men take on Switzerland and 315 from Stuttgart, with Hungary the opposition.
Joerg is backing Germany and Scotland at the Euros and said: “I am looking for a draw in the opening game.
“I’m German and support Germany but secretly my fingers are crossed for Scotland.”
