Baking News: super simple King Cake

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – If you’re wanting to make a King Cake but don’t have the time to let dough rise, this recipe is for you!

You’ll need:

Cake:

  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon milk or milk alternative
  • Purple, green and gold sanding sugar

How to make:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Open the cans of crescent rolls and place one sheet of dough on top of each other. Using a rolling pin, rolls dough into large rectangle. Set aside.
  • Melt butter, then combine with sugars and cinnamon. Fold in pecans.
  • Spread mixture on top of dough.
  • Roll the dough lengthwise and seal the edges by pinching the dough together. Combine the ends to create a circle.
  • Bake king cake for 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees. The top should be golden.
  • While baking, make the icing. Mix together sugar, vanilla and milk. Add more milk until desired consistency.
  • Once cake is cool, drizzle icing on top and decorate with sanding sugar.
