Balranald Roos Football Club take emotional post-match celebrations to sick club member’s front yard

An entire football team from a small New South Wales town have melted hearts after singing the club song outside the window of a sick club member.

The players, from the town of Balranald, on the Murrumbidgee River, took their team bus to the house of Jeff Mannix in a special tribute.

Mannix has been part of the Balranald Roos Football Club for over 40 years but couldn’t attend Saturday’s win over Cohuna while he battles cancer.

All 22 players jumped on a 16-seater bus following the game and stopped out the front of the Mannix family home, singing their club song followed by happy birthday for Jeff, who turns 63 on Monday, and a wave through the window.

A heartwarming video of the moment was captured by one of Jeff’s sons, Grant, and posted to Instagram alongside a heartfelt caption.

“Thanks to all the Senior boys that came along to sing the song and pop in for a visit to see Dad,” it read.

“Nothing will make Dad prouder than seeing the club in the position it is now, from where him and plenty of others brought it back from. Roos simply get it done this year! Different gravy!”

Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au, Grant said the family were incredibly touched.

“Dad was lost for words when he found out that the boys were getting on a bus and singing the song outside of his window,” he said.

“It’s a unique gesture that I haven’t seen or heard of any worldwide club do, and it happens within our small town.

“Once the bus arrived, they asked for my siblings (Kris and Renee) and I to join in with them and sing our club theme song.

“This is a moment that I don’t think anyone will forget. We can’t thank Jydon Neagle (coach) and the rest of the team enough for this amazing gesture, which there wasn’t a dry eye onsite.

“Dad has been part of the Balranald since he was 19 years old with a career spanning over 40 years … in the role of president, secretary or treasurer, he had to do all three jobs at one when the club was going through time of hardship.”

Currently second on the ladder in the Central Murray Football League, “the mighty Roos” say they’re confident in their finals chances this year.
