Barbra Streisand, the Oscar heavyweight, Grammy-winning great, and all-around icon, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
“This is such a wonderful award to get because you know in advance you’re going to get it. You don’t have to sit there in squirm… And if you don’t have to put on such a happy face, ‘I’m so happy to lose!’ Anyway, you all know what I mean,” joked the legend.
Streisand revealed that she was a proud SAG-AFTRA member for over 60 years, reflecting on her teenage dreams of becoming an actress. She recalled sitting in her bed in Brooklyn with a pint of coffee ice cream and a movie magazine.
Streisand dedicated her lifetime achievement speech to the actors in the auditorium, thanking them for bringing her joy by watching them on the screen.
The Hollywood elite audience, including Anne Hathaway, stood in awe as Streisand reminisced about watching Marlon Brando in “Guys and Dolls,” expressing her admiration for his talent.
Jennifer Aniston presented Streisand with her award, highlighting her exceptional talent and influence on the industry. Aniston noted the significance of the Shrine being the venue for Streisand’s first major concert in 1963.
Bradley Cooper surprised the audience with an additional tribute to Streisand, calling her a “true auteur.”
SAG-AFTRA recognizes actors who embody the finest ideals of the profession, with Streisand being the latest recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA president, praised Streisand as an icon and unparalleled talent, commending her remarkable career and enduring legacy in the industry.
Streisand has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including two Academy Awards, ten Grammys, and several other prestigious awards for her contributions to music and film.
In addition to her acting and singing success, Streisand has also ventured into directing, with her films earning critical acclaim and multiple award nominations.
Streisand’s memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” was recently released as a 48-hour-long audiobook narrated by the diva herself.
