Basil Zempilas: A greener, safer cactus-free Perth CBD is coming to you

1. I am immensely proud to be able to continue as the 18th Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and I want to thank the community for re-electing me in such emphatic fashion. The first election was special. The second feels even more significant. Second time around you’re judged on your record, your achievements, your leadership style and to be returned with 57 per cent of the primary vote, almost double what I received in 2020, is hugely gratifying. I took restored trust, real progress and my strong voice for our city to the electorate and that position was overwhelmingly endorsed. So, what’s on the list of things to get done?

2. Make Waterbank presentable. For too long the area behind the WACA has been an ugly gateway for our city. Let’s get those unsightly barriers down, grass and landscape the sand pit and open it up for school sport and neighbourhood recreation with community open space and playing fields.
