BBC Studios Factual Taps Nicola Pinn as New Chief Operating Officer

BBC Studios has tapped Nicola Pinn for the newly-created role of chief operating officer of factual productions.

BBC Studios factual managing director Kate Ward unveiled Pinn’s promotion.

Pinn moves up from her previous role as factual’s director of production. She will continue to lead production and business management across BBC Studios’ factual portfolio as well as other areas including governance, strategic partnerships and financial and creative goals.

Ward also revealed that Katie Benbow has been appointed director of strategy, a role which will see her work closely with BBC Studios partners in global media and streaming as well as focusing on content strategy and investment. Benbow will also managed the indie partnerships team, which is led by Tom Young.

Pinn and Benbow take up their new positions immediately.

The appointments were made to strengthen the senior production team and ensure BBC Studios factual arm will continue to deliver on creative ambition and building stronger links with the international markets.

“I could not be more delighted that Nicola has agreed to take on this extra responsibility, her vast experience and range of her impact is matched by her deep passion for our productions, our people and our values,” Ward said. “I have no doubt that in her expanded role she will continue to ensure that our factual portfolio continues to thrive.”

“Katie’s deep knowledge of the production market, experience across production, distribution and branded services, and love of the factual genre make her the perfect strategic lead for us as we look to deliver our ambitious plans for the future,” Ward added.

BBC Studios is the British broadcaster’s commercial arm. Its factual productions include shows ranging from “Planet Earth III” to “Mammals.” It also owns production company Voltage TV.
