Before Shohei Ohtani, top 15 players to play for both the Angels and Dodgers – Daily News

Shohei Ohtani will be introduced on Thursday, Dec. 14 by the Dodgers, and will join a relatively small group of stars who played for both the Angels and Dodgers.

Immaculate Grid addicts might have memorized the full list of 123 previous players to spend time with both local clubs – according to Baseball Reference – but do they know the best ones to do so? Or will they fall prey to recency bias and assume Albert Pujols was a major producer for the teams in Los Angeles and Orange counties?

He doesn’t even crack the top 15, according to combined WAR – wins above replacement – from his time with the teams.

By the way, Ohtani will enter the list at No. 4 the moment he makes his first plate appearance next season with the Dodgers. His career WAR: 34.7.

But, for now, here are the top 15, based on their combined WAR for their time with the Angels and Dodgers:

1. Willie Davis, outfielder

  • Angels: .3 WAR
  • Dodgers: 54.6 WAR
  • Total WAR for the two teams: 54.3
