Bengaluru weather: IMD forecasts ample rainfall in Bengaluru post Ugadi

After enduring intense heat day and night for the past month, residents of Bengaluru may finally find some relief following the Ugadi festival, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has hinted at the possibility of ‘light to moderate’ rainfall in the city.

In contrast to the earlier April 1 forecast indicating expected normal to below-normal rainfall in April for districts in South Interior Karnataka, the most recent update from the IMD on Thursday now anticipates normal to above-normal summer rainfall across the region, including Bengaluru, reported TOI.

The forecast of salubrious rainfall has brought cheers among the public.

According to IMD, Bengaluru and South Interior Karnataka districts will start witnessing summer showers in the second week of April with thunderstorms extending till the end of the month.

A Prasad, senior scientist at IMD, Bengaluru, said, “The rain may start from the festive day of Ugadi with a few spells of light showers in isolated areas and gradually go on to become moderate rainfall during the second half of the festive week.”

The officials also revealed that rain would be scattered all over the city. “It will be accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. While it may not rain uniformly across the city, a few areas are expected to get considerable rainfall slightly above the normal range,” said another meteorologist. While the rain is still a week away, IMD meteorologists revealed that the heat conditions are set to turn worse over the next three days. “Peak heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over Bengaluru and other adjoining districts. On Thursday, Bengaluru recorded 37 degrees Celsius, which is 3 degrees above average for April. This is expected to go up slightly by the weekend by a few points,” yet another meteorologist said.(With TOI inputs)
